DrillMeister Expands Cylindrical Shank Drill Body Lineup
Iwaki, July 2021 — Tungaloy has enhanced its DrillMeister exchangeable-head drill solution by expanding the TID-R cylindrical shank drill body line for a 6.0-9.9 mm (.236″-.390″) drill diameter range.
DrillMeister TID-R line features a straight drill body with no flats or flanges on the cylindrical shank. The new drill bodies will complement the drill diameter range (DC) of 6.0-9.9 mm for depth capacities of 3.5, 6, and 8xD.
Due to its cylindrical shank configuration, TID-R drills can be clamped evenly in a hydraulic chuck or ultra-precision ER collet, achieving high runout accuracy; therefore, the drills are ideal for small diameter drilling operations that require a close hole tolerance, as well as process security.
Since the new drills are available in either 8 or 10 mm shank diameter, job shops can simply swap solid carbide drills for DrillMeister TID-R drills without additional holder investments. The easy and secure tool exchange provide minimum machine downtime and reduced tool management costs that would incur from reconditioning solid carbide tools.
The DrillMeister series
DrillMeister exchangeable head drills are a super productive, accurate, and cost-efficient drill series. A single drill body can hold five different styles of drill heads in diameters ranging from 6.0 mm to 25.9 mm (.236″-1.020″). The standard drill bodies come in ten different shapes with lengths from 1.5xD to 12xD, allowing greater flexibility for optimum performance across a wide range of materials and applications. The drill heads are available in general purpose DMP style, DMC for high precision holes, DMH with enhanced drill corner geometry for drilling thin walls, DMF with flat edges ideal for counterboring, and DMN for non-ferrous applications.
DrillMeister features a unique self-locking interface that enables simple and secure drill head exchange. Since drill heads can be replaced without having to remove the drill body from the spindle tool setup time can significantly be reduced, eliminating presetting, offset, and touch off of the replaced tool.
